Blog for Monday 17th September 2007

The President was in a euphoric mood having visited Thame Club to listen to Ken Bruce Waxing lyrically, no doubt about his mate ‘’Tel.’’
Ken, not Bruce but our President, used the occasion to present a cheque to the Thame members for their help at the Waddesdon horse event.
There was then a brief summary of the Waddesdon presentations to Charities with special mention of the Wheel power representative who was a Paralympic Medallist England, very inspirational.
Health reports where given on Keith Cullup, who is making a steady recovery and Roger Rickard’s broken wrist which is on the mend!
Keith Smith commented in his own inimitable way by saying, "...at least it has stopped his other little habit for a while!’’
We were then subjected to one of Peter Barnes ‘’TICK’’ stories which gave him much discomfort all the way to Ireland. The conclusion being that, "... if you get a tick on your todger, put salt on it and wait untill it turns black and shriveled," or something like that!
Eurotary was then fully discussed and we were all given our final instructions. Sixteen months in the planning and at last, Friday registration looms this week!
Martin Andrew hoped we all would not get too Whammowed, (slightly inebriated), and that everything would be tickedyboo.

There where then several last minute discussions about detail and the meeting broke up with much anticipation of the coming weeks festivities. (Founder of Eurotary87 was Jock Strap –who was Finnish just thought you would like to remember that!)

Lastly a report on the Witchert wonderers latest adventure was offered by Paul Haworth, chief wanderer.

Blog for Monday 10th September 2007

Our presentation evening at Waddesdon village hall is always a rewarding event, as it is an opportunity to find out where some of the charity funds we raise through the year will be spent. Standing in for Keith Cullup who had chaired the latest Waddesdon horse event, I was able to announce that in total during the 2006-07 year the club had raised over £19,000 through a variety of one-off and regular activities. The Waddesdon Sponsored Horse Ride in late April had been the biggest single contributor, with its proceeds being distributed on this evening between seven charities and local groups.
Andy Blake from Milton Keynes, a six times Paralympic Medalist in basketball and swimming gave a talk on behalf of WheelPower. WheelPower was the president’s nominated charity for the year, and it supports UK wheelchair sport at all levels from schoolkids to Paralympics. Andy had just got back from winning a silver medal in the European Championship, and now has his eyes firmly set on the Paralympic Games in both Beijing and London 2012. He said, “…without organisations like Rotary, WheelPower would not be able to fulfil the dreams of so many disabled athletes.”

A good turnout, as ever, for this Fund Distribution evening

Representatives from the Haddenham Cycle Training group accept their cheque from Club President, Ken Elphick

The other recipients, each of whose representatives gave a short outline of their group’s work, were – Pendyffryn Childen’s Trust, the St Lawrence Home of Hope, Children of Chernobyl group, Haddenham Cycle Training, Brill Environmental group. The final donation, as always, was to the Waddesdon Village Hall in recognition of the support provided by the Waddesdon Estate and the Rothchilds family for the annual horse event.
The formalities over, we enjoyed a sociable cheese and wine evening at which we were able to find out more about the work of these very worthwhile groups.
